DROWNING POOL Make Live Debut With New Singer
July 18, 2003DROWNING POOL, the platinum-selling Texans who have spent the past few months recovering from the death of frontman Dave Williams, made their live debut with new singer Jason "Gong" Jones at Curtain Club in Dallas Thursday night (July 17). The group reportedly previewed a number of songs from their forthcoming Wind-Up release, including a track called "Numb". DROWNING POOL are expected to enter the studio in late summer to begin recording their sophomore album, tentatively due in early 2004.
As exclusively reported here early last month, Jones — who has yet to be officially announced as the group's new frontman — previously auditioned for the singer slot in SEPULTURA during the Brazilian band's vocalist search in 1997 and was briefly a member of CHOP SHOP, the short-lived Los Angeles group led by ex-MANHOLE guitarist Scott Ueda. More recently, Jones was linked with the new project formed by ex-FEAR FACTORY guitarist Dino Cazares (with whom he recorded a three-song demo) and was believed to be involved with FIVE-O-CLOCK, the new group featuring former AMEN guitarist Sonny Mayo, ex-WHITE ZOMBIE drummer Ivan De Prume, and bassist Stevo Bruno.
